Initiatives of IEEE Region 10 SAC

IEEE Region 10 Student Activities Committee (SAC) strives to implement activities for the benefit of the student volunteers to develop their leadership skills and align their activities with the goals and objectives of IEEE Region 10.

IEEE Region 10 SAC successfully organized three informative events during the past months, namely:

IEEE R10 Student Membership Development Summit 2021

All three events were focused on driving the student activities carried out in the region, empowering student leaders and sharing experiences of the volunteer leaders of IEEE.

IEEE R10 SB Chairs and Advisers Summit 2021 was held on the 27th March 2021 with the participation of IEEE Region 10 Director – Mr. Deepak Mathur, IEEE MGA SAC Chair – Mr. Hossam Ali, and the winners of IEEE Region 10 SAC awards for the year 2020. Mr. Deepak Mathur appreciated the efforts of the newly appointed team and emphasizes the importance of the contributions made by the Student Branch Chairperson, Counsellors and Advisors. Mr. Hossam Ali shared the objectives and planned activities of MGA SAC and mentioned that every initiative was for the welfare of the students, volunteers and the enrichment of student branches. Prof. Jennifer Dela Cruz, IEEE Region 10 SAC Chair, shared the annual plan with the attendees and provided insight into the events organized in the year. Ms. Warunika Hippola, IEEE Region 10 Student Representative, discussed the Student Branch revival initiatives and mentioned that IEEE Region 10 SAC would provide support in such events. Mr. Sai Prashant, Webinar and Training Coordinator, conducted a session on IEEE reporting tools and did a walk through with the participants. Then, an experience sharing session was conducted with the participation of the most recent winners of IEEE Region 10 SAC awards. It was followed by a panel discussion with the guest speakers moderated by Ms. Ain Hamizan, Webinar and Training Coordinator, enabling the participants to resolve their concerns. The summit concluded with the closing remarks from Prof. Christian Enoval, Webinar and Training Coordinator.

IEEE R10 SAC Chairs and Section Student Representatives Meet-Up 2021 was held on 5th June 2021 with the participation of IEEE Region 10 Director – Mr. Deepak Mathur, Vice Chair – Membership, IEEE MGA SAC – Ms. Simay Akar and Project Manager, IEEE Asia Pacific Limited – Ms. Ewell Tan. With the opening remarks, Prof. Jennifer Dela Cruz focused on the importance of the roles of both the SAC Chairs and the SSRs when conducting student activities at the sectional level. Mr. Deepak Mathur provided valuable insights on how IEEE can be used for career growth and the need for continuous support from SAC Chairs and SSRs for the student branches. Ms. Simay explained how the coordination has to be maintained among MGA, Regions, Sections and SBs when an event is organized. Ms. Ewell did a comprehensive session on Student Branch rebates and opportunities. Following that session, Ms. Warunika presented the developments and plans of Region 10 SAC including student membership benefits. Mr. Chamika then presented the revised IEEE Region 10 SAC Chair and SSR Operations Manual which consisted of responsibilities, activities, tools and documents. Following that, an experience sharing session was conducted with the participation of SAC Chairs from a selected set of Sections to share their best practices with the volunteering community. Overall, the summit was moderated by Webinar and Training Coordinators, Mr. Sai Prashant and Ms. Ain Hamizan. The summit concluded with the closing remarks from Prof. Christian Enoval, Webinar and Training Coordinator.

IEEE R10 Student Membership Development Summit 2021 was held on 21st August 2021 with the participation of Vice-President, Membership IEEE MGA – Dr. Maike Luken, IEEE Region 10 Director – Mr. Deepak Mathur, and IEEE Region 10 Director-Elect – Prof. Lance Fung. In her opening remarks, Prof. Jennifer Dela Cruz exclaimed the progress and contributions from students and their selfless efforts done along with the mentors, senior members of IEEE to strengthen and foster technology for humanity. Ms. Warunika expressed her gratitude to the panelists, attendees, and moderators for their efforts to ensure the summit objectives and shared her views for student membership development across Region 10. Dr. Maike Luiken shared the global perspective of IEEE, and recent updates and plans for the student members. She concluded her session by thanking the R10 SAC for engaging the community with impactful initiatives and extended her enthusiasm for upcoming activities. Mr. Deepak Mathur shared the regional updates, his experience in Region 10 and its history and priorities. Prof. Lance Fung shared his vision for IEEE Region 10 which included support initiatives on collaborative activities across multiple OUs with involvements of student members and volunteers, initiatives on entrepreneurship, industry, and humanitarian engagement for students, and continuous growth in Region 10 student and graduate student members. Following these, Mr. Bibin Parukoor Thomas did a session on IEEE.tv, Dr. Dhanu Pattanashetti explained the benefits of IEEEXplore and Mr. Adwaith S provided an overview of IEEEXtreme. Then, an experience sharing session was conducted with the participation of volunteer leaders from different countries in the region. It was followed by a panel discussion and a networking session using Kahoot. Overall, the summit was moderated by Webinar and Training Coordinators, Mr. Sai Prashant and Ms. Ain Hamizan. The summit was concluded with the closing remarks from Prof. Christian Enoval, Webinar and Training Coordinator.
