R10 Student Branch – IEEE Curtin Sarawak Student Branch

IEEE Curtin Sarawak Student Branch (SB) was formed in 2012 with 10 members and now has grown to 60 members. Curtin University Sarawak is one of the offshore campuses of Curtin University Australia. Several events are co-organized together with IEEE Curtin University SB in Australia, such as an online job application workshop. The vision of IEEE Curtin Sarawak SB is to provide a technical platform for IEEE members and Curtin students to apply their technical knowledge and network in their areas of interest as well as to contribute their skills and passion to local and global communities, especially toward communities in Malaysia.

IEEE Innovation Nation Malaysia 2020 – Techno-preneurship Bootcamp

IEEE Curtin Sarawak SB had done quite a lot of outstanding events in the past few years. One of the most memorable events for 2020 is the “IEEE Innovation Nation Techno-preneurship”. The aim of this event was to turn students into entrepreneurs driven by technology invention and creation, and to tackle issues with technologies and adequate knowledge on how to set up a start-up. Other than Malaysia, this event also took place in Sri Lanka, Bosnia and Jamaica. Throughout the event, participants were able to access multiple resources which included pre-recorded online and mentoring sessions. 56 participants from Malaysia joined this event..

STEM Playground Virtual Fair 2020

STEM Playground Virtual Fair 2020 is another memorable and big event organized by IEEE Curtin Sarawak SB. STEM Playground Virtual Fair is the first online interactive virtual STEM in Sarawak organized in collaboration with TEGAS, Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA), Ministry of Education, Science and Technology Research and Sarawak Education Department (MESTR). This virtual fair was held from 28th September to 4th October 2020. The event featured games and challenges for all the participants. The “STEM Playground Virtual Fair 2020” saw a total of 188,058 visitors to the website.

–IEEE Malaysia Outstanding Student Volunteer Award 2019 (1st Runner-up) – Tay Chuan Zhi (Chair of IEEE Curtin Sarawak 2019)
–IEEE Malaysia Outstanding Student Volunteer Award 2019 (2nd Runner-up) – Alvin Lau Siew Nam (Vice Chair of IEEE Curtin Sarawak 2019)
–The FOES Sustainable Project Award (Curtin FOES Student Academy Challenge 2019)
–The FOES Community Engagement and Student Leadership Award (Curtin FOES Student Academy Challenge 2019)
