The final round of the IEEE Region 10 Robotics Competition 2022 with the theme “Robotics for Healthcare has been conducted successfully at the Faculty of Engineering, Chulalongkorn University, Bangkok, Thailand, between 17 – 18 December 2022. The event is co-organized by the IEEE Thailand Section, Department of Electrical Engineering, International School of Engineering, Chulalongkorn University, and IEEE Robotics and Automation Society Thailand Chapter with 117 participants from 5 countries.
The event started with a welcome message from Prof. Dr. Tawatchai Charinpanitkul, Associate Dean, Faculty of Engineering, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Naebboon Hoonchareon, Head, Department of Electrical Engineering, Mr. Pongsakorn Yuthagovit, Chair, IEEE Thailand Section, Mr. Deepak Mathur, IEEE Region 10 Director, with a report on technical program from Assoc. Prof. Dr. Supavadee Aramvith, Vice Chair, IEEE Thailand Section.by
The technical program features two keynote talks: “Robot for medical applications,” by Prof. Viboon Sangveraphunsiri, Chulalongkorn University, and “Medical robotics research at Mahidol University,” by Dr. Branesh M. Pillai, Department of Biomedical Engineering, Mahidol University. There are two invited technical talks: “Research and development in hospital automation” from Assoc. Prof. Dr. Supachai Vongbunyong from KMUTT, and “Mobile robots and autonomous vehicle: standards and testing,” by Dr. Pasan Kulvanit, Department of Science Service, Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research, and Innovation.
The final round of the competition consists of a pitching and poster demonstration led by Asst. Prof. Dr. Thavida Maneewarn, local technical program chair.
Apart from the final round, there is a local pre-university student workshop on jumping-legged robots organized by Assist. Prof. Dr. Ronnapee Chaichaowarat, International School of Engineering, Chulalongkorn University. 49 pre-university students participated from 7 schools (Saint Gabriel’s college, Panyaprateep, Darunsikkhalai School for innovative learning, Satit Panyapiwat Institute of Management, Suankularb Wittayalai, and Srinakharainwirot University Prasarnmit Demonstration school (secondary). The workshop consists of a lecture on designing the jumping-legged robot and the rounds of competition in which robots take the fastest time to reach the finish line. For the results, the 1st place is Saint Gabriel’s college. The 2nd place is Darunsikkhalai School for innovative learning. The 3rd place is Suankularb Wittayalai.
The competition concludes with an award ceremony. The organizer thanks Mr. Deepak Mathur, 2021-2022 IEEE Region 10 Director, and Dr. Zia Ahmed, 2021-2022 IEEE Region 10 Vice-Chair of Technical Activities for the initiative of the first-ever IEEE Region 10 Robotics Competition. The appreciation goes to Dr. Akila Wijethunge and the local organizing team lead from IEEE Thailand Section: Assoc. Prof. Dr. Supavadee Aramvith, Asst. Prof. Dr. Thavida Maneewarn, Asst. Prof. Dr. Ronnapee Chaichaowarat, Dr. Khanita Duangchaemkarn, and students and staff from Chulalongkorn University.
