IEEE R10 SAC Section Student Branch Revival Fund 2022 – LET’S RISE AGAIN

Let’s Rise Again’22 was an IEEE event organized jointly by IEEE Karachi Section’s Student Activities Committee (SAC) and IEEE IIEE Student Branch, through the IEEE R10 Section Student Branch Revival (SSBR) Fund 2022. It took place at the Institute of Industrial Electronics Engineering (IIEE-PCSIR), Karachi, Pakistan on Wednesday, 31st August 2022. This event was open for all universities and student branches of Karachi Section. The collaborative student branches of the event were IEEE UIT Student Branch, IEEE ZUEFSTM Student Branch, IEEE PES NEDUET Branch, IEEE IIEE Student Branch, IEEE DUET Student Branch, IEEE PAF-KIET Student Branch, as well as IEEE HIET WIE AG and IEEE PES MUET.

The event started with the recitation of Holy Quran following with our respects to the country by reciting the National Anthem of Pakistan. Moreover, the opening speech by Engr. Dr. Farah Haroon (Principal, IIEE) was delivered with regards to the achievements of student branch revival and heartiest congratulations upon the re-establishment of IEEE student branch in IIEE. The speech of the Principal was followed by an informative talk titled “What is IEEE and How it Works?”, delivered by Engr. Saqib Munawwar (Member Executive Committee, IEEE Karachi Section) in which he shared the history of IEEE and how it functions in different countries, with various roles played for the betterment of students, societies and professionals. Afterwards, Ms. Sadaf Manzoor (Section Student Representative, IEEE Karachi Section) marked her words upon the “Introduction to Student Activities Committee”, where she explained why SAC is important for students and how it help develops the qualities of leadership in students to achieve his/her career goals. Next, Engr. Muhammad Faizan (Member IEEE Young Professionals Affinity Group) delivered an informative technical talk titled “Future of Machine Learning and its Engineering Applications” in which he emphasized upon the importance of machine learning in engineering application and industries as well as in fusing it with programming logic controllers, supervisory control, data acquisition etc.

Prof. Dr. Muhammad Shahab Siddique (Chair Membership Development Committee, IEEE Karachi Section) gave an interesting talk titled “How, When and Why to get IEEE Membership”. Students’ engagement in this talk was wonderful with lots of queries regarding IEEE Membership. Afterwards, Engr. Parkash Lohana (Chair, R10 Professional Activities Committee) marked his words of wisdom regarding the value of IEEE and emphasized upon why to join IEEE. He guided the audience by sharing the big picture of IEEE. Later on, Dr. Muhammad Faisal Khan (Chair, Student Activities Committee, IEEE Karachi Section) gave a mentorship session to boost the self-esteem and self-confidence of students. He motivated the students and faculty members in doing volunteer work by joining IEEE. In the end, Engr. Asif Ahmed Memon (Branch Counselor, IEEE IIEE SB) gave a closing speech in which he destined to continue IEEE activities in IIEE throughout the year. He acknowledged the financial support by IEEE R10 Student Activities Committee along with administrative support by IEEE Karachi Section’s SAC in the revival of IEEE IIEE SB. 150 participants attended the event.

R10 SAC Membership Development and Leadership Training – Student Leadership and Membership (SLAM)’ 22

Student Leadership and Membership (SLAM)’22 was an IEEE event organized jointly by IEEE Karachi Section’s Student Activities Committee (SAC) and IEEE SSUET Student Branch, under the IEEE R10 Membership Development and Leadership Training (MDLT) Fund 2022. It was a two-day event which took place at Sir Syed University of Engineering and Technology (SSUET), Karachi, Pakistan on 1st September 2022 (200 Participants) and 21st September 2022 (100 participants).

The first day of the event started with the recitation of Holy Quran which was followed by a video message from Prof. Dr. Bhawani Shankar Chowdhry (Chair, IEEE Karachi Section) in which he appreciated the organization of such an informative program, SLAM ‘22. Further, Mr. Hassan Fazil (Project Coordinator, SAC) delivered a talk on “Introduction to Student Activities Committee” in which he highlighted the role of SAC with respect to Student Branches. Furthermore, Prof. Dr. M Shahab Siddique (Chair, Membership Development Committee, IEEE Karachi Section) talks about “When and Why to Join IEEE” in which participants get to know IEEE history, and what does IEEE work for. Following this the panel discussion took place with Mr. Mumtaz Hussain Soomro (Chair, IEEE Young Professional Karachi), Ms. Syeda Dua Zehra (Former Chair, IEEE WIE AG SSUET), Mr. Mudassir Akbar Khan (Former Chair, IEEE SSUET SB) and Ms. Mehak Kanwal (Former Chair, IEEE PES SSUET) as the panelists, where they shared their wonderful journey with IEEE. Afterwards, Ms. Sadaf Manzoor (Section Student Representative, IEEE Karachi Section) delivered a talk on “Volunteer Lead Achieve Mission 2022” in which a networking session took place. After this Mr. Rafay Shaikh (Vice Chair, IEEE Young Professionals) delivered a talk on how IEEE is important in grooming students and enhancing their capabilities. Furthermore, Dr. Muhammad Faisal Khan (Chair, SAC) delivered a mentorship and motivational session. The closing remarks of the first day event was delivered by Dr. Muhammad Amir (Professor and Dean, Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering, SSUET and Chair, ComSoc IEEE Karachi Section) in which he expressed his views about IEEE and appreciate the efforts of IEEE SSUET Student Branch.

The second day of SLAM ‘22 was held at Sir Syed University of Engineering & Technology on 21st September 2022. The event started with the recitation of Holy Quran. Ms. Sadaf Manzoor (SSR, IEEE Karachi Section ) delivered a talk on the roles and responsibilities of SB’s office bearers in which she initially discussed about the different levels of IEEE memberships and briefly shared her past experience as office bearer of IEEE NEDUET Computer Society. Afterwards, the “Importance of Leadership Support in Student Branches” talk was delivered by Engr. Tauseef Mubeen (Branch Counselor, IEEE SSUET SB) and Mr. Muhammad Rafay Shaikh (Vice Chair, IEEE Young Professionals). Next, VTools training was conducted by Anas (Vice Chair, IEEE SSUET SB). The closing remarks for the second day of the event was delivered by Engr. Tauseef Mubeen (Branch Counselor, IEEE SSUET SB) in which he appreciated the efforts of the organizing team of the event and give a note of thanks to all the participants and guest speakers.

Data Science Boot Camp Karachi

Muhammad Rabeet Sagri, Executive Committee Member for IEEE Computer Society Karachi

IEEE Computer Society Karachi Chapter along with IEEE NUCES Student Branch organized a 4-Day Data Science Boot Camp Karachi, funded and supported by the IEEE Computer Society Karachi Chapter. The Boot Camp was held from 22nd to 25th June 2022 at FAST NUCES Campus Karachi. The participants were open for physical as well as for virtual participation where the top academic and industry experts provided hands-on-experience and practical knowledge to the participants. The training sessions of the Boot Camp comprised topics on ‘Introduction To Python’, ‘Exploratory Data Analysis’, and ‘Machine Learning & Deep Techniques’. Dr. Bhagwan Das, Chairperson for IEEE Computer Society Karachi explained the benefits for joining IEEE and IEEE Computer Society as Student Member as well as Professional Member. A total of 167 students and professionals participated in the Data Science Boot Camp where 30 participants participated physically and the remaining 137 joined virtually from different universities across IEEE Karachi Section.
