The IEEE Seoul Section hosted the IEEE Region 10 Conference Quality Workshop, an event aimed at educating conference organizers and section leaders on how to maintain the quality of their conferences to meet IEEE standards.
The workshop was held on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, in a hybrid format, allowing for both in-person and online participation. The venue was the auditorium on the first basement floor of the Korean Institute of Communications and Information Sciences (KICS) building in Seoul.
The event was planned and overseen by Professor Inkyu Lee (Korea University), Chair of the IEEE Seoul Section, with Professor Sunghyun Bae (Sejong University), Chair of the Seoul Section’s Conference Quality and Management Committee, serving as the session chair.
The program featured five 20-minute presentations. The first, on “Conference Application and Quality Governance,” was delivered by Dr. Michael Ong, Chair of the Region 10 Conference Committee.
He introduced the mission and significance of IEEE conferences in fostering the exchange of technical knowledge, along with IEEE’s framework for ensuring conference quality.
The subsequent presentations were as follows:
- “From application to approval: your guide to IEEE conference sponsorship & TCS success” by Ms. Ewell Tan, Program Manager at the IEEE Asia-Pacific Office.
- “Role of Technical Program Committee for Improving and Maintaining Quality of Conference” by Professor Cheon Won Choi of Dankook University.
- “Best Practices for Organizing a Successful Conference” by Professor Jong Chang Yi of Hongik University.
- “AI Ethics and Road to AI Ethics Professional” by Ms. Hyeyoung Yoon, Senior Manager at the Korea Financial Telecommunications and Clearings Institute.
In total, 12 people attended the event in person, with additional participants joining online.
Following the workshop, Dr. Michael Ong, Chair of the Region 10 Conference Committee, along with Professor Inkyu Lee, Chair of the Seoul Section, and other section members, engaged in a more in-depth discussion to explore ways to improve the quality of future IEEE conferences to be hosted by the Seoul Section.
