In today’s rapidly evolving world of technology and society, IEEE remains a powerful force for connection and progress—empowering individuals across borders through knowledge sharing, collaboration, and leadership. Since beginning my term as IEEE Region 10 Director, I have had the privilege of engaging with many inspiring communities and events that truly reflect our region’s diversity, energy, and commitment.
This quarter has been particularly vibrant. I was honored to participate in the IEEE R10 Humanitarian Technology Conference (HTC 2025), held in Chiba, Japan (Sep 28–Oct 1). In addition to delivering a talk and joining the HTA (Humanitarian Technology Activities) Impact Congress, I also took part in the Section Chapter Symposium (SCS), where I interacted with passionate volunteers from across Asia and beyond. I was especially pleased to see active and enthusiastic participation from North Asia, a promising sign of growing engagement and leadership in the region.
Earlier in the quarter, I had the pleasure of joining the IEEE Chicago Section’s 131st Anniversary Celebration. I was delighted to learn about new collaborations forming between Region 10’s HTA Committee and IEEE Chicago, reflecting the importance and potential of cross-continental cooperation in advancing humanitarian innovation. It is truly encouraging to see our efforts connecting members not just within R10, but also globally.
With more than 200,000 members across 28 countries, Region 10 is the largest and one of the most diverse regions in IEEE. I am proud of the impactful initiatives led by our Educational Activities Committee (EAC), Student Activities Committee (SAC), Young Professionals (YP), Women in Engineering (WIE), and Life Members (LMAG)—including cross-region STEM outreach programs and AI-enhanced education collaborations involving institutions in India, Japan, and beyond.
This spirit of collaboration and inspiration continued through events such as the IEEE SAC Webinar (Thailand Edition), the SYW Seminar in Taiwan, and the R10 Horizons Webinar, where we heard personal journeys of resilience, leadership, and growth from distinguished IEEE Fellows and global leaders.
I encourage all members to reflect on what unites us: our shared dedication to “Technology for Humanity.” Let us celebrate not just what we achieve—but how we achieve it—through ethical, inclusive, and collaborative efforts.
Looking ahead, the upcoming Region 10–11 realignment in 2028 is a pivotal opportunity. I urge all members to stay involved as we reimagine how to better support each other, strengthen Sections, and empower the next generation of leaders
IEEE Region 10 is moving forward—together, with purpose, unity, and heart. I look forward to continuing this journey with all of you.
Takako Hashimoto
IEEE Region 10 Director, 2025–2026
